Urafiki Girls

HEAR OUT WHAT I ACHIEVE AT MY 13 YEARS OLD

It was not my dream to join Technology classes I never thought of it in my life, may be because I was not exposed to it. but I love trying new things and new learning.

In 2019, Urafiki girl’s organization announce that they are going to start new project thus technology through I had idea what technology was but I will join them and see myself. Few girls were selected for the trial.

The COVID 19 pandemic disease stopped everything, through Urafiki girls continued the classes online but I wasn’t able to participate because we have no any access to technology devices at home.

In 2021, After the reopening the school, the project began to be conducted physical. I join them again. We learn how to generate ideas, put them into practice using coding technology creating Mobile Application. We were only ten girls that made two teams; five girls per each team, we both submitted our idea to Technovation challenge.

We didn’t win or get to any fore stage of the Technovation challenges. I think because it was our first time to be exposed in technology things.

On October, 2021, we heard about the international day of the girl child which was encouraging girls to engage in technology. Our mentor told us about the competition held in Dar es salaam and then Urafiki girls facilitated the journey for us to attend the event presenting our technology idea representing our team.

Without know what is happening my school teacher visit at home and started talking with my aunt, later on Dada Hasna come too and inform my aunt that I have to travel to Dar es salaam to present Our Technology idea in the International day of a girl child. At the first my aunt hesitated and told her to speak with my father. After communicating with him, my father granted a permission to travel ne next day.

With much excitement, it was surprised in the morning to know that this day will be my first day to travel by flight. To be honestly It was my first time and a I am the first person to travel by flight in my family. The journey was full of surprises because me and my friend was the only young girls under 14-year-old participated the competition.

I still not believing that our idea was recognized to be among of the best ideas. As a team, we awarded with certificate of recognition from Bright Jamii and the government.

From the event, I learned that at the early age I can achieve different things and leave legacy only if I engage and connect myself to different learning opportunities. Now see joining the Technology classes was the right choices I have ever made and I will be an ambassador to encourage girls to be part of technology and I will support them to the coming challenges so that they win it.
